Weimar Republic Tour

 Weimar Republic Tour

From February to July 1919, the German National Assembly met in the newly created Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar and formulated a constitution that is still valid in parts today. What happened during these five months in the city and where were the important institutions?

This guided tour seeks to shed light not only on the political, but also on the socio-cultural environment of the Weimar Republic years and, starting from the founding of the first German Republic, seeks to give an insight into the years in which Germany danced proverbially on the volcano.

We will start on the Theaterplatz at the memorial plaque of Walter Gropius and then move through the Residenzschloss towards Platz der Demokratie, where the first Thuringian state parliament was located. We will continue our tour of the art school buildings where the Bauhaus operated, and will end after a visit to the homes of Oskar Schlemmer and Walter Gropius, again at the Theaterplatz.
