Bauhaus Tour

The Bauhaus Weimar*

"The ultimate goal of all artistic activity is construction." With this slogan, the "Staatliche Bauhaus" took up its apprenticeship in Weimar on 1 April 1919. Founding director Walter Gropius gradually invited the artistic avant-garde of his time to this new type of school. Masters such as Johannes Itten, Paul Klee, Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky, Lyonel Feiniger and students such as Georg Muche, Marcel Breuer and Wilhelm Wagenfeld created an innovative environment in the rooms of the art school buildings created by Henry van de Velde, which made every experiment possible and set no limits on creative ideas.

Walk with me in the footsteps of the early Bauhaus and discover what emerged in Weimar from 1919 to 1925, why the circle is blue and not red and what Mazdaznan is all about.

Based on the idea of "Neues Weimar" and the foundation of the arts and crafts seminar, our tour will begin at the Henry van de Velde buildings and will lead us across the park, passing the Tempelherrenhaus and the former studio of Johannes Ittens. The tour continues on to the model house Am Horn, which was built on the occasion of the great Bauhaus Exhibition in 1923 to a design by Georg Muche, in close proximity to Paul Klee's house. Be curious about the edifying Bauhaus myth!
